If Kelly Cutrone could brand this week in fashion news, she’d surely
call it ‘The People’s Revolution’. For those who don’t know, that’s also
the name of Kelly’s publicity company, which she gained notoriety for
by employing Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port during their
reality-television days on MTV’s ‘The Hills’. It also describes a shift
of power in fashion land – everywhere we look there’s proof that the old
is out, and the ‘new’ is news:
Earlier this week, after nineteen seasons,
America’s Next Top Model
host and executive producer, Tyra Banks, fired her long-time judging
panel including J. Alexander, Nigel Barker and Jay Manuel. Kelly
Cutrone, the publicist, replaced André Leon Talley, American Vogue’s
contributing editor. If you follow fashion, chances are you already know
Bryan Boy
and why he’s a logical shoo-in for the ANTM judging panel, but we doubt
Barker could’ve predicted this outcome way back when editors reigned
supreme.
With Beth Ditto recently
questioning the sanity of Karl Largerfeld, following his fat-comments to Adele last fall, our focus is back on girls with curvy frames. We’ve posted a gallery on
cool clothes for curvy girls, and celebrated
the return of the peplum, but
xoJane took is one step further by posting a
“Fat-kini” gallery
earlier this week. What’s that, you say? Oh, just a photo gallery of
regular girls in bikinis. But the point is that they’re not skinny, or
fat for that matter – just “normal”.
Wait, is normal finally….normal?
Before we start feeling too comfortable and happy with ourselves,
we’d better come back to Earth by soaking in one more sunny celebration
where celebrities are better than everyone else:
The Cannes Film Festival.
All this week we’ve watched unique beauties like Diane Kruger, Kristen
Stewart, Jessica Chastain, Freida Pinto and Tilda Swinton walk the red
carpert. By the time Nicole Kidman showed up, for the launch of her film
“The Paperboy”, all we could think was: Does she really still feel up
for this?
Only because she probably doesn’t want to deal with actresses like this:
- Also, Ann Taylor has joined American retailers J. Crew, Target and Victoria’s Secret in
securing a spot in the Canadian marketplace.
-
Gucci won it’s lawsuit against Guess? for infringing their design genius.
And,
UGG Australia just
HAD to come up with
these, don’t you think? Nah.
