Eddie Izzard will run 27 marathons in 27 days
Eddie Izzard has begun what could be his toughest challenge yet - to run 27 marathons in 27 days in South Africa.
The comedian will be running the marathons in honour of Nelson Mandela.Sky 1 will be showing the three-part series, 27 Days, later this year, with each marathon marking one year that Mr Mandela spent in prison.
During the expedition he will be visiting the sites linked to Mr Mandela's personal history and retracing the roots and life of the 93-year-old.
Izzard will be running over 700 miles in total.
As he travels across the country he will be visiting the places that matter most to Mandela and meeting the people whose lives he touched and influenced.
The comedian's journey will begin in the Eastern Cape, where the former president was born.
From there he will travel to Cape Town, where one of the marathons will take place on Robben Island, where Mr Mandela spent the majority of his 27-year prison sentence.
The last marathon will be in Pretoria, where Mr Mandela was on trial.
Izzard said: "The marathons will be run all over South Africa in areas that resonate with [Mandela's] life, including: Mvezo, Qunu, Fort Hare, Cape Town, Robben Island where he was imprisoned for 18 of the 27 years, Johannesburg, Soweto, Rivonia, and Pretoria."
